About the event
Raku is low-temperature, fast-firing process that yields exciting and dramatic surface effects on ceramic pieces. It gives artists the chance to paint with smoke, create stunning metallic contrasts with glazes, and bright organic patterns with various materials. Most exciting is that you can experience the final results of a firing in a very short time. This class will cover techniques for creating raku forms and preparing their surfaces. It will also teach various finishing techniques with fire, reduction, and surface treatments. We will be diving more in depth into heatwork for soluble salts and expanding our color pallete from previous classes. We will also have the ability to continue exploring horsehair, carbon surfaces, and glazes. In addition to these styles students will also be exposed to saggar methods and various combinations of surfaces.
Participants must be at least 18 years old.
Students will be given one 2-hour session of open studio access per week, during hours the store is open.
25lbs of Raku clay will be provided during class. Additional clay is available to purchase from the store. Outside clay will not be accepted.
