Beginning Handbuilding, Sunday Afternoon (Studio 2)

*Explore the art of pottery through our 6-week beginners' handbuilding class! This hands-on experience will introduce you to the basics of building with slabs and coils, as well as making surfaces and attachments. Learn essential techniques as you create your own functional and decorative pieces. Our skilled instructors will guide you through each step, making this class perfect for those new to hand built pottery. Unleash your creativity in a supportive and enjoyable environment, and leave with handmade pottery that reflects your unique style.

Week 1.  Pinch pots and hollow form.  Discuss test pieces for glazing and simple forms as starting points for more complex work.

Week 2.  Hump and slump molds.  Slab roller intro with discussion about slab thickness, use of textures, mold materials/types, and coil handles.

Week 3.  Cylinder forms for mugs, vases, votives.  Discuss drying time, joining and adding, and how to avoid warping.  Pulled handles.

Week 4.  Discuss surface treatments such as underglaze and carving, as well as finishing and handling dry greenware.  Start pitcher form ahead of week 6, discuss cone shape.

Week 5.  Glazing class, possibly a combo intro/intermediate split session.

Week 6.  Pitcher, exploring a more complex form.  Emphasis on constructing a spout and larger coil or pulled handle.

Participants must be at least 18 years old.

Students will be given one 2-hour session of open studio access per week, during hours the store is open.

12.5 lbs of studio clay will be provided during class.  Additional clay may also be purchased from the store.

Cancelation Policy

You may request to cancel your participation.

-Full Refund: up to 2 weeks before the start date of the class.

-Full Credit: Cancellations within 2 weeks of the class start date get a full credit towards a different date/time of the same class.

-50% Credit: Cancellation requests made within a week of the class date/time will receive 50% credit to be transferred to a different date/time of the same class.  

-Full refunds if you find someone to take your registration.

-When you register for a class, you agree to these terms. In the event that Ceramica must cancel this event, a full refund will be issued for the remaining portion of the class.
