About the event

Raku is low-temperature, fast-firing process that yields exciting and dramatic surface effects on ceramic pieces. It gives artists the chance to paint with smoke, create stunning metallic contrasts with glazes, and bright organic patterns with various materials. Most exciting is that you can experience the final results of a firing in a very short time. This class will cover techniques for creating raku forms preparing their surfaces. It will also teach various finishing techniques with fire, reduction, and surface treatments. While some pieces will be available to use, students will be expected to be proficient at throwing 2-4 pieces per class in order to have enough work to fire.

This class is meant for folks that are fairly new to Raku-style ceramics and is a 6-week structured learning experience.

Participants must be at least 18 years old.

Students will be given one 2-hour session of open studio access per week, during hours the store is open.

25lbs of Raku clay will be provided during class.  Additional clay is available to purchase from the store. Outside clay will not be accepted.
